Garlean Grunt

Tobias didn't remember much of his family. In an attempt to settle their debts he was shipped off to be a laborer at a Cerulean Mine at a very early age.Often while working he would skim parts and/or designs off of the Garlean works he was forced to work with. He quickly became a scrapper, eventually being taught the skills of a Rogue by one of the other prisoners.Eventually during an uprising he took the opportunity to flee the mine while pocketing several pieces of Garlean equipment which served as his first experiments (and sales) while he figured out his next moves.

Teen/Young Adulthood
Ishgardian Implant

Having heard of Cid Garlond and the Ironworks, his travels eventually brought him to Ishgard in which he pursued an internship/mentorship at the Skysteel Manufactory.Inspired by the workd of Stepanivien de Haillenarte and his previous experiences with Garleans, he sought to look to new ways to combine Aetherology and Magitek.During this time he became a Machinist and built his first automaton, which broke its restraints and tried to wreak havoc in his sector. His lab hours were consequentially moved to after hours to prevent further havoc upon the other members.It was around this time that Tobias actually had opportunity to see first hand expeditions into allagan ruins and began deconstructing their systems as best he could.It was around this time he found the connection between the Third Astral Era Allagans + Gunbreakers leading him to go deep into his exploration of Allagan Technology to the point where he was almost let go from the Manufactory for ditching his actually assigned work for what he would state was "The bigger prize."

Current Status
Engineering Explorer

Currently operating out of a hole in the wall shop he has dubbed the Azure Allagan (complete with logo, patent pending) he has just reached a point where he can present his most recent efforts to combine aether and Garlean technology for Aether shells.He eventually wants to use the concept of nouliths to create portable shielding for both chocobo caravans, airships, and practical combat use. In his youth he sought to build an airship and create technology that might one day make him a hero, but now he seeks mostly to prevent harm and protect the people around him (even if sometimes that means protecting them from himself and his crazy ideas).Currently he spends a majority of the time doing freelance work for Skysteel and Garlond Ironworks and uses the funds there to pay off his debts in the hopes that he'll one day be able to have a team of his own to explore the world and solve the problems of the future, whatever they may be.

"Fun" Facts

-His Gunblade is a custom prototype. While he can use aether and has built tools to contain/control it, the gunblade he wields runs off of a specially made Aetherotransformer that can be ran off of Ceruleum alone to avoid draining the aether of the user. Neither have been approved by the Skysteel Manufactory or Sharlayan.-He is not well traveled outside of allagan ruins. He has seen very little of the world and is "task oriented" in that he goes where the ruins are and nowhere else.-He built an airship once, it did not go well. He's still in debt from this. He will inevitably build another.-Cool and Collected most of the time, he loses his cool if an expedition goes awry and often gets into situations where he has to be bailed out/nearly dies because he believes any deaths/issues on the expedition is "His Fault"-His "cool persona" he puts off is from a book about a Garlean when he was a kid. A sort of Batman character but with garlean flair. He would use his technology to fight magical foes. While he knows now it was Garlean propaganda, it no less inspires him to help those in need.-his first successful invention(read: didn't combust in some way) was a mammet in the shape of a small troll. He still keeps it around to this day despite it having no practical use or reason for being.-His shop is technically labelled a "disaster area" which is only allowed to continue due to the containment he and Skysteel Manufactory built to protect the poor citizens in Ishgard. Luckily he built it in a ruined section of the city so the damage is hardly noticeable.

Having grown up around Garleans he didn't see them all as the enemy of the people they were later made out to be and realized the power of their propaganda at a young age. As such he has an innocent until proven guilty outlook which allows him to speak to and develop relationships with Garleans, as part of his mantra has been to help make technology that also suits those without aether.Au Ra girls
